Internship in Germany. Takes some time getting used to, but my German improved!
“I was an intern for 4½ months last summer during my placement at Camping Kinzigtal in the German Black Forest. In the beginning, it was strange to get used to, but I shared my tent with Yoni and that was super fun. ” During her internship Sterre experienced some small differences compared to the Netherlands.
“The area was not as modern as the Netherlands; For example, you could only withdraw up to 20 euros at most stores, many shops were closed in the afternoon because it was rest time. To give another example, we weren’t allowed to work outside on weekends and holidays.
Luckily we had a lot of leisure time because of that! There were many outdoor activities, very different to what I was used to in the Netherlands.”
‘Yes, i would definitely do it again if i got the chance. It’s an fun experience.’
Would you do it again? “Yes I would definitely do it again if I got the chance. It’s a fun experience. You learn to be independent and learn how to deal with people from different countries and cultures. Plus, I would like to see more of the world. Working together with foreign colleagues went very well! It was difficult sometimes in the beginning to speak in German all the time and understand it, but as my internship progressed it got better. “
